Irish Heritage Apple Variety: Richardson

This is a really nice classic apple from sunny inland areas of the South East of Ireland. The quintessential Irish eating apple, not small or too big, juicy and sweet, but with acidity, so not too sweet. Great colour. When visitors recently saw these on the tree, they asked how we could resist eating them.

County: Kilkenny (South East Ireland)

Type: Dessert Apple

Size: Medium

Colour: Soft green, fading to pink-red on the sunny side

Ready for Harvest: Late August

Flavour: Very juicy with a flowery, sharp but sweet taste.

Rootstock: This is grown on an M26 - Semi Dwarfing.

Time to fruit: For me, this produced a small crop of a few apples in the first year when planted bear root. The tree appeared to be about 3 years old at hat stage.

Pest resistance: At present, no evidence of attack by wasps, and no signs of apple scab or problems affecting some other trees.
