The Wren

I was very excited today to see what I thought was a very-rare treecreeper, climbing on one of the trees in our garden. On closer inspection it appears it was a wren, one of the most common breeding birds in the UK.

We have a few wrens which keep us company in the garden all year so they are always welcome and getting this photograph allowed me to tick them off my list of birds spotted in the garden.

They are remarkably similar in size and colour to many fledgling and juvenile birds of other species, such as the Robin, but the distinctive fine striping and grey and white bands on the outmost feathers confirms the identification.
